A critical review of Orientalists'objections on Abrogation in the context of Complexities of the Quran
Abstract
Quranic verses are divided into two types: Muhkam and Mutashabih. Muhkam verses are those whose meanings are clear and understandable, while Mutashabih verses, also known as complexities of the Quran, are those whose interpretation is difficult due to some linguistic or semantic complexity. Early and later Muslim exegetes have expressed their own opinions on the problems of the Quran according to their own understanding. If a Quranic verse is ambiguous, in addition to early and later exegetes, Orientalists have also offered their own interpretations according to their own understanding. Some have given opinions in a neutral way, while others have demonstrated prejudice and built a house of conjectures on baseless assumptions. Since the beginning of the Orientalist movement, Christian and Jewish Orientalists have made various objections to the Quran after studying the Quran. Orientalists have objected to the Quran in various ways, including contradictions in Quranic verses, abrogation, precedence and delay, strange words, and differences in recitation. They have also discussed the Arabic language of the Quran, its compilation and editing, the order of Quranic surahs, differences in recitation, logical connections between verses, and contradictory verses. In the research under discussion, a critical review of the objections of Orientalists to abrogation, which is one of the various research of the problems of the Quran, has been taken.
