Abstract

Brachylogy is a rhetorical term for a concise or condensed form of expression in speech or writing. Contrast with: battology. Also known as breviloquence. a concise style in speech or writing or colloquial shortened form of expression that is not the result of a regular grammatical process the omission of "good" in the expression "Afternoon" is a brachylogy. A form of condensed writing or speech where a longer form of expression, be it a noun group or a figure of speech, is reduced to a much shorter version. Brachylogy is considered one of the most important issues of semantics, because some scholars consider rhetoric to be Brachylogy, and Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi says about this: “It is the reduction of speech without prejudice; As if it were a reduction without prejudice''. As for Brachylogy, Ibn Manzur said in Lisan al-Arab: The most concise speech is the shortest.in the definition of the rhetoricians, “the multiplication of meanings is subsumed under the small word,” which is what Al-Jahiz expressed when he said: The most concise speech is the shortest The word must be less than the meaning while fulfilling it, otherwise it is a defect that spoils the speech. There are two types of Brachylogy: Deletion Brachylogy and Shortening Brachylogy. Al-Zuhayli mentioned in his book The Enlightening Interpretation in his boo of ''ALmbahis fil Aqida wal Manhaj" :Brachylogy of its two types: shortening and deleting.
