Love in Islam, and its Human Dimensions (An Analytical Descriptive Study)

Abstract

Islam, a religion of peace and prosperity, places a high value on human rights, particularly those governing how people should interact with their parents, close relatives, neighbours, and strangers in order to protect their rights and safety, as said by Prophet (PBUH): "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands the Muslims are safe; and a Muhajir (Emigrant) is the one who refrains from what Allah has forbidden". Islam is not only an individual’s personal matter that is limited to his or her own existence, rather it is a way of life that provides a complete set of principles for a social, economic, and political system. Similarly, Islam values the human heart highly and gives it a major place in its theological, legal, and administrative principles; this is what distinguishes Islamic culture from other civilizations. A Muslim's heart is responsible for many of their deeds, such as having good intentions, being sincere in their worship of Allah, being pious, thankful, and patient, forgiveness in attitude and loving others for the sake of Allah. Loving others is one of the qualities of good hearts, and it has a significant effect on both the character of a Muslim and the Islamic society. Therefore, Muslims specifically are extremely responsible and cautious in their behavior and attitude toward others when they love for the sake of Allah. In this article, I will define what love for Allah is, discuss its linguistic and textual meaning, and explain what is meant by it in the light of the Quran and Sunnah, and the scholar's point of view in this context. What are its effects and benefits on Islamic Society?
