Technicalities and Problems in the Understanding of the Text of Holy Qur’(An Analysis in the Light of the Tafseer Tarjaman-Ul-Qur’an from Maulana Abul Kalam Azaad)

Abstract

The present study focuses on the technicalities about various interpretations and meanings of the text of Holy Qur’an in the light of the renowned work "Tarjuman-Ul-Quran" by Maulana Abul Kalam Azaad. Maulana Abul Kalam Azaad has explained and presented this complex issue very vividly in 14 points. This is an analytical study in which data is gathered from secondary sources; books, articles and online sources. Abul Kalam Azaad argues that we need to understand the text of the Qur’an in its true and natural essence. He argues that we can only understand the essence of the Quran under the given condition. One such example is the work of "Salf" which focuses on the natural essence of the text and the language that is used. But in some recent works in the discipline the entire focus is shifted to the interpretation rather than the actual meaning of the text, looking into it in the prism of emerging ideas, the portrayal of personal biases in the noble literature of the discipline, and cross-comparison of the meaning of the Qur’an to modern-day researches. The present thesis argues that the mentioned approaches has made the understanding of the message of the Qur’an very hard for mass population, if not impossible.
