Relation between State and Religion:Research and Analysis of Supportive and Counter Narratives

Abstract

It is need of time to revisit and explain the relationship between religion and state by analyzing contemporary intellectual discourses. One of the most important pioneers in this regard is Al-Madrid's Al-Ahkam-al-Sultaniya. Farabi's Opinions of the People of Al-Madinah Al-Fadhila, Al-Muqaddama Azaban Khaldun and the mother of books on this issue. Besides, the names of Shah Waliullah, Maulana Maududi and Dr. Hamidullah were of special importance among the later writers on various aspects of this issue. Aristotle, Thomas Hobbes, John Lock Machiavelli and Carl Marks are among the top researchers among the western thinkers who took a detailed look at the state and its components. The relationship between the state and religion is one of the most important issues of our time. Regarding the definition and evolution of religion, we are guided that religion has been needed by all societies, and even today, one cannot afford to be completely free from this natural need. Thus, religion has always played an important role in the formation of societies and state as well as their evolution. States of the past have had religious affiliations from the very beginning. Of course, many attitudes and opinions regarding religious affiliation have dominated human thought. Among them are absolutely religious doctrines, doctrines based on the inevitability of religion regarding the training of individuals in the state, and the absolute non-religious state doctrines gained acceptance among the people.

In modern times, nations and traditions have developed so much that it is difficult to find a precedent in the past. There is still a longing and despair in that they are devoid of morality. On the contrary, a pious person is always self-accountable. He is worried about adhering to piety. Therefore, being rebellious and spreading chaos are not in his nature. In this way, the individual and state become safe and secure.
